bearded lady recommends...

in town for the clusterfest? here are some places worth checking out.

the liberty. 1618 1/2 e. 6th street. a haven for getting (slightly) out of the mess. friendly folks, full bar, and the best bar food that ever did was at east side king in the back. get your awesome new tattoo next door at bijou studio.

thunderbird coffee. they have two locations: 1401 koenig ln. or 2200 manor rd. coffee, sandwiches, beers. sustenance you need.

rio rita. 1408 e. 6th st., barely off the beaten path, a hopskip from the east side drive in. stop by in between your free beer party, pie-fighting, and transcendental musical experience for some killer iced toddy or the best bloody mary in town.

beerland. 711.5 red river. rebel rebels. not part of any official sxsw doings, but they have showcases full of musical worthiness nonetheless. run by the same fine folks as rio rita. please don't do coke in the bathroom.

sidebar. 602 e. 7th st. some of the sweetest bartenders in town. seriously.

lovejoy's. 604 neches st., smack dab where you want to be. celebrate your vices, man (everyone else will be). tasty homebrews. total landmark.

emo's. 603 red river. duh.

jackalope and chupacabra. side-by-side 6th street caverns of boozy fun - 404 and 400 e. 6th st. . jackalope'll get you burgers, po' boys, hotdogs, beverages (good courtyard patio in back). go next door to chupacabra for tex mex needs.

shangri-la. 1016 e. 6th st., just barely east of i-35. massive tree-shaded courtyard in back. shangritas. mmm.
