WHERE'S THE BEEF?

well, here's something we did lately.

if you were watching monday night football this week, maybe you saw wendy's re-debut their iconic "where's the beef" slogan from the 80's. if you didn't, um, you can watch it at the end of this post. anyway, some people we know were handling wardrobe for the commercial shoot, and needed to produce a new version of this here actual vintage, worn out, where's the beef shirt.

so we did a slew of test prints for them.

a tasty ketchup n' mustard color combo was settled upon, we rolled off a bunch of 'em, and they went to work on those suckers with basically a bunch of alchemist's tools and determination. the objective was to make them look 20 years old over the course of about two whole days. no easy task.

of course, they pulled it off, because they're just bad like that. you can see the results below. a kid named reid ewing (he's in some tv show) plays a hipster discovering the transcendent power of burger slogans. heartwarming.

(can't post this without shouting out clara peller, cute old lady from the '84 original, who hailed from chicago which so happens to be kind of one of our favorite places in america. way to go, clara.)

we finally got around to it for ian's reunion tour with the ian moore band.

from what we hear, this past weekend's shows were a smash (we're already reprinting his shirts, 'cause he sold them all out). you can catch them this thursday in san antonio at sams, friday in dallas at granada theater, or saturday in okc at the diamond ballroom.

we've said before that this bar employs some of the sweetest 'tenders in town. it's the truth, people, and a logical fact since Soo and Trey, the owners, also happen to be totally awesome individuals.

as usual, they are throwing an excellent party, this year with a nautical theme (7 seas, dig?). sounds by djs supafly and czech one, photobooth by john pesina, food by the empire food trailer, and free limited edition shirts and posters - imagery by the talented mr. jaime cervantes, and textile shwaggy printing by yours truly.

so now you know what you're doing tomorrow night. going to get you some goodies and toast these fine folks. doors at nine.

new cameo army

bearded lady just acquired another new/old press. we get all happy around here when that happens.

once we have this baby scrubbed, oiled, polished, and in smooth running condition, it will complete our army of cameo presses.

this is our favorite line of poster presses. we've been printing on cameos for years, they're reliable, durable, hardworking...hey, just like us.

we just finished a couple of t-shirt prints for the wooden birds, the most recent project from andrew kenny (of american analog set).

they've just struck out on their summer 2011 tour.

jay ryan, a chicago artist, has done their last round of t-shirt designs, as well as a cover collaboration for their second album, "two matchsticks" (barsuk records).

on this one, we did some overlay trickery to get four colors out of a three-color print.

we recently printed some neon candystyle t-shirts for a nifty little project wiley wiggins is working on.

THUNDERBEAM, y'all.

it's a video game for the ipad done in the style of retro-70's sci-fi cartoons you (or your crusty uncle) watched on saturday mornings back in the day. the project is a collaboration with animator bob sabiston (of waking life), illustrators rachel morris and ian berry, and it's scored by the brilliant kids from octopus project so it's sure to be easy on both the eyes and ears. they just successfully nabbed all their funding through kickstarter a few days ago, so the project is full go - see their page for a full description of the game and updates from wiley. you can still pledge if you want - it'll get you a free copy of the game AND one of these sick shirts if you throw 15 bones into the pot.

do you like beer? thought so. you should drink this kind. it's delicious, and made right around the corner from the wide world of bearded lady. this time of year, their pilz, hefeweizen, and pale ale all hit the spot with refreshing relief from the heat.

by the way, you can help them out by supporting some new texas brewery legislation - HB 2436/SB 1575. if it passes, you'll be able to trudge over there and fill your growler with malty goodness direct from the source. wine producers are already allowed to do sell their product this way in texas, hopefully soon our brewers will too.

oh yeah, one more thing.

live oak brewing, white mountain foods, smokey denmark, and maine root are getting together to throw their annual spring fest this saturday, april 16th, from noon to six. free food, drink, and live music. bring your dog (on a leash), taste free things, listen to music, get some sun. usual springtime saturday goodness, right?

We still need to clean it all up a bit but we acquired some new toys at the end of 2010.

The two book presses were scored in Austin. one has a 10x17 platen and the other has an 18x25.

And then we purchased an antique, 46"- Jon Jacques board shear. It was found in a building that had recently been purchased by a machine shop in Kansas City.

We're looking forward to making some cool stuff for ourselves this year.
